St Nicholas Street
St Nicholas Street in Carlisle is a road running south from Botchergate / London Road to St Nicholas' Bridges (bridge over the railway built in 1846 and L&NWR goods depot built soon after) and continuing on to Blackwell Road. The west side of the street is mostly a terrace of houses: Nos. 5-61, St Nicholas Street, built in the 1840s/50s. No. 61, on the junction with Woodroufe Terrace, is the former White Ox Inn. On the east side of St Nicholas Street are a mixed range of buildings, including: Gallaghers Irish Bar (the former Golden Lion), a range of shop units, housing and The Carlisle South End Constitutional Club, (the former Golden Fleece Inn). No 38. is a detached house with Flemish bond brickwork, dating from the early 19th century (a Listed Building). The former Salvation Army & Young People's Hall at the south end of the street was built in 1931, and is now The Temple Autionrooms of Laidlaw Auctioneers.
