St. Michael and All Angels Church, Hawthorn

The gothic style Church of St. Michael and All Angels in Hawthorn, County Durham, was built in 1862. The church was a gift to the village from Richard Permberton, High Sheriff of County Durham. The Pemberton family were wealthy land and coalmine owners.[1]  Richard Permberton and family lived in Hawthorn Towers in the village. Several members of the Pemberton family are buried in a family plot in the churchyard.
