St George's CofE School

St George's Church of England School is located by the junction of School Street and Salthouse Road in Barrow-in-Furness. It is a voluntary controlled school with about 260 pupils aged 2 to 11. The school was originally built in 1849 by the Furness Railway for employees' children. At that time, the school formed part of the nucleus of the new town, based on the railway terminus in St George's Square. The original building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. Adjacent to this is a new school building, constructed in 2011.
