Sedbergh War Memorial

Sedbergh War Memorial is located in the churchyard of St Andrew's Church, off Finkle Street, in Sedbergh. The memorial was designed by Sir John Hubert Worthington (1886-1963), an Old Sedberghian and the Principal Architect of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It was unveiled in a ceremony on the 12th of December 1920, by Brigadier General North, CB, MVO.[1] In the late 1940s polished stone tablets were fixed to the base of the cross shaft, inscribed with the names of 40 local servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War. The names of 19 servicemen who were killed in the Second World War were added after that conflict. The memorial was renovated in 2009. It is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
