THE ORIGINAL HAYDON BRIDGE

  • Description

Now restricted to pedestrian traffic this old bridge once took the main A69 north-south traffic through the village. Evidence of recent repairs to the parapet can be seen at the right hand end of the bridge, looks like it will take a bit of weathering before it matches the older stones of the bridge over the River South Tyne. The holday home of Monica Jones, the freind of Philip Larkin stands on just behind the bridge on the right hand side of the river.
