Old Milestone by the A595, west of West Woodside

    "Metal plate attached to stone post by the A595, in parish of WESTWARD (ALLERDALE District), Beech House, West of West Woodside, North East of Micklethwaite, at crossroads, on grass verge, on North side of road. Carlisle red stone and curved plate, erected by the Cockermouth & Carlisle turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- CARLISLE 8 MILES COCKERMOUTH 17½ MILES Carved benchmark.
