"Municipal Offices. 1857 by A.B. Higham of Newcastle. Rough-faced snecked rubble with quoins on chamfered plinth; 1st floor string. Graduated slate roofs with stone copings, kneelers and corniced stone chimneys. Gothic style. Asymmetrical north front of 2 storeys with attic; 5 bays. Doorway with pointed head in ground floor of central tower which carried clock turret...."
