Rake House Farm

Rake House is a small-business and office complex, based on a former farm on Rake Lane in Preston Grange, North Shields. The former farmhouse dates from the 19th century, but it is said that there was a farm here since the 17th century.[1] Historically, Rake House was part of the township of Monkseaton in the ancient parish of Tynemouth, in Northumberland. Whellan's 1855 directory of Northumberland lists Joseph & William Fenwick as farmers here at that time.[2] The farmhouse is in included in the List of Buildings, Parks and Gardens of Special Local Architectural or Historic Interest ('Local List') for North Tyneside. The former farm buildings underwent extensive renovations in 2008 and are now host offices and small businesses. Planning approval to build 310 houses on the former farm land around Rake House was granted in 2021, as part of a wider Local Plan for 3,000 new houses.[2]
