Park House, Hawkshead
Park House is located on Main Street (no. 34), in Hawkshead. The building dates from 1863 and was originally a school, built in the grounds of Hawkshead Grammar School. The land was given by the governors of the Grammar School for the parishioners to build a free school. After a new modern school was built in 1970s, Park House was used as a meeting space. In 1998, Cumbria County Council put the building up for sale and The Park House Trust was formed to retain the building for the community and make it a home for the village’s seven scouting and guiding groups. Following many years of fund raising, the building was renovated and was officially opened on the 14th September 2003, as a centre for the 1st Hawkshead Scout and Guides, a pack holiday house and community resource.[1]
