Old Tynemouth Station

The first railway station in Tynemouth was opened on the 20th of March 1847 by the Newcastle and Berwick Railway. The station buildings were designed by John and Benjamin Green. At that time it was the terminus of the line from Newcastle, which before then had terminated in North Shields. It was closed to passengers in 1882, when the new Tynemouth Station opened a short distance to the north-west. The main passenger building of the old station survives and is now two residences (nos. 5 and 6 Oxford Street). The old station buildings are Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
