Library


The Library is located at No. 20, Bridge Street, in Blyth. The building, with its distinctive clock tower, was originally a Mechanics Institute, built in 1882 in a subdued High Gothic Style. The building is included in the 'Local List' of Non-designated Heritage Assets.

The building has a blue plaque, commemorating Aaron Walton (1886-1967), who was not ony Chairman of Blyth Library, but also Mayor of Blyth on 11 occasions and Blyth Spartans Club President. Walton lived locally on Marine Terrace and was awarded the Honorary Freedom of the Borough of Blyth in 1960. (Blue Plaque, Blyth Town Council)
