Langdale War Memorial

Langdale War Memorial is located in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church at Chapel Stile. The memorial is a Latin cross on a 2 stage base, surmounting a wall inscribed with the names of 26 men from the parish who lost their lives in the First World War. It was designed by architect Jonathan Stables of Ambleside and is built from Langdale slate.[1] The memorial was unveiled on the 26th of September 1920 by Mr F.E.T. Jones-Balme of High Close, Ambleside and dedicated by the Vicar.[2] Later, a tablet was added at the base of the memorial to commemorate 5 local men who lost their lives in the Second World War. Langdale War Memorial is Grade 2 listed on the National Heritage List for England.
