Knag Burn Gate, Hadrian's Wall

Knag Burn Gateway is located at the point where Hadrian's Wall crosses the Knag Burn (stream), located to the east of Housesteads, and west of Turret 36B. Knag Burn itself passes beneath the wall via a culvert a few metres to the West of the gateway. The gateway was built after the construction of the wall itself, probably in the 4th Century. It is noable as being one of the few gates through Hadrian's Wall that wasn't part of a milecastle or fort.
