Killingworth Station (1847 - 1965)

Killingworth Station was located immediately south of the level crossing on Station Road / Killingworth Drive in Killingworth. The station was opened on the 29th March 1847 by the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway It was located almost a mile east of Killingworth Village. The station gained additional passengers when the Newcastle Races moved from Town Moor to Gosforth Park in 1881 (the new racecourse was just over a mile west of the station). Killingworth Station closed to passengers on 15th September 1958, and closed to goods traffic on 7th June 1965. The station was demolished. However, the name lives on in the street name: Station Road and in The Station (public house and resturant).
