Jesmond Picture House

Jesmond Picture House was located on Lyndhurst Avenue in Jesmond, next to West Jesmond Station. The cinmea opened on 2nd May 1921 with a showing of "At the Mercy of Tiberius". The building was designed by the Newcastle based architectural firm, White & Stephenson, it had a single screen and seating for 998 people. The cinema closed in 1993 and over the years, various plans to redevelop the building failed to come to fruition. The building was finally demolished in October 2009. A development on the site now hosts a Sainsburys Local and 'The Jesmond' offices.
