    "The foundations of ‘Jesmond Picture House’ were laid in 1919 and the building was formally opened in May 1921. The one screen building holds many happy memories for Jesmond residents, particularly those who recall special Saturday matinees for children. The three storey building is made of stone and brick, and painted white. Most of the building is plain, though the classical decoration above the main entrance is elaborate. In 1991 this was the oldest functioning cinema in Newcastle...."
