Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's house / Museum)

Hill Top is a National Trust property in the Lake District, located in the village of Near Sawrey, about 2 miles south-east of Hawkshead. The house, with farmhouse attached dates from the 17th or early 18th century, with later alterations. Hill Top was purchased by Beatrix Potter in 1906 and was used by her as a retreat and for her writing. She illustrated the house in many of her books, principally 'The Tale of Tom Kitten', 1907, 'The Tale of Samuel Whiskers', 1908, and 'The Tale of Jemima Puddleduck', 1908.[1] She left the farm to The National Trust and the house and gardens are open to visitors. Hill Top is a Grade II* listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
