High Handenhold


High Handenhold is a village in County Durham, located about 2 miles north-west of Chester-le-Street and just under a mile east of Pelton. The village is situated to the north of the A693, over the road from West Pelton. The village grew in association with Handen Hold Colliery (aka Hand-in-Hold pit), which opened in 1860 and operated up to 1968. High Handenhold forms part of Pelton Civil Parish.
