Hartlepool Headland
Headland is an area in the North of Hartlepool. There are numerous historic landmarks including the 12th century St Hilda's Church, the Town Walls, Borough Hall, and the Heugh Lighthouse. The Heugh Gun Battery, now a museum and visitor centre, was in action during the naval bombardment of Hartlepool during the First World War. Public art around the Headland includes sculptures 'The Big Catch', 'Force Ten', 'Andy Capp' and these can be seen on the Headland Story Trail, which is a circular route around the Headland marked by 18 information boards.
