Galen House, Low Friar Street
Galen House is located on the corner of Low Friar Street and Dispensary Lane in Newcastle. The building dates from c.1901 and was designed by Matthew Horner Graham and built for George G. Laidlaw. Three corners of the building have distinctive octagonal towers with round windows. It was originally a medicine factory and named after Claudius Galen, who was the father of the experimental method in medical investigation. Galen House was later converted into 62 furnished apartments. Galen House is on the Local List of buildings of Local Architectural or Historic Interest ('Local List') for Newcastle.
