Dykesfield Bridge


The bridge in Dykesfield was originally built to carry the road to Longburgh over the Carlisle Canal, which was built 1819-1823. After the canal closed and was replaced by the Port Carlisle Railway, it became a bridge over the railway. The bridge was increased in height 1853-1854 for the Port Carlisle Dock and Railway Company. The railway closed in 1932 and was later dismantled. Glasson Bridge is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
