Dorman Long Tower, South Bank Coke Works
The Dorman Long Tower at the former South Bank Coke Works in Redcar was built in 1956 by Dorman Long & Co, later part of the British Steel Corporation. The tower was demolished on the 19th of September 2021. There had been a last minute listing as a Grade II building on the National Heritage List for England, on the 10th September 2021. However, the listing was revoked by the Culture Secretary, Nadine Dorries. The tower had been considered of significance for the industrial heritage of Redcar. However, South Tees Development Corporation applied for it's demolition as the costs of maintaing the structure of the disused building were unsustainable and would block redevelopment of the wider site.
