The Demolished Dorman Long Tower

  • Description

"The remains of the iconic Dorman Long coal tower at the former coke works, built 1956. The tower was deemed too costly to repair and use as a centrepiece of the redevelopment of the coke works area, and was demolished in the early hours of 19th September 2021 despite last minute listing as a Grade II building on 10th September. The listing was revoked by Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries. Compare with image showing the derelict tower in 2020. [[6541120]]" Photo by David Robinson, 2021.
