Dewley Burn

Dewley Burn is a small river which flows near Throckley and continues as New Burn before discharging into the River Tyne.

19th century maps show a dam on Dewley Burn, built to feed a mill race to power Dweley Mill.

Dewley Pits (aka Dewley Burn Colliery), located to the north of the Burn, operated in the 18th and 19th century - for a time associated with George Stephenson and Robert Stephenson.
