Devil's Bridge
Devil's Bridge crosses the River Lune to the south-east of the town of Kirkby Lonsdale. The bridge straddles the civil parishes of Kirkby Lonsdale and Casterton. It was built in the 14th century. The stone bridge has 3 segmental arches. It is Grade I listed on the National Heritage List for England. In Medieval times, Devil’s Bridge was once the only bridge over the Lune for miles around and formed part of the west-bound route into the town. The bridge is now only for pedestrian access, having been replaced as a road bridge in 1932 by Stanley Bridge, which is 150m to the south.
