Darras Hall Railway Station (1913 - 1954)

The Gosforth to Ponteland railway line was developed by North Eastern Railway, and opened in 1905. A sub-branch line from Ponteland Station to Darras Hall was opened to passenger services on the 1st of October 1913. Passenger numbers were low, and the Darras Hall branch line closed to passengers on 17 June 1929, but remained open for goods traffic until 2 August 1954. The wooden station building was later used as a URC church up to 1973, but was demolished in c. 1992.[1] The street called 'Old Station Court', is the site of the station.

In the 1920's a 7½-mile branch line was developed to Belsay Colliery, known as the Wallridge Mineral Railway. Today, part of the 'Reivers' Route 10 of the National Cycle Network follows this old line, from Darras Hall out to Belsay Colliery.
