Darras Hall Station

  • Description

"....Notes: This was intended to be a commuter station serving the prosperous inhabitants of Northumberland’s version of Hampstead Garden Suburb. It was situated 1 mile 20½ chains from the junction at Ponteland. Two tracks passed through the station, but there was only a single, timber platform on the up side. The building, like its neighbours on the South Gosforth – Ponteland branch was wooden, but the design was more elaborate to satisfy the exacting standards of the discerning local residents. ....although there were no explicit plans to extend the branch when it was opened, the 7½-mile Wallridge Mineral Railway was added. In the 1920s this had untimetabled services for miners who worked at the short-lived Belsay Colliery....."
