City Baths

The City Baths are located on Northumberland Road in Newcastle and include a gym, pool, spa and Turkish baths. Newcastle City Pool and Turkish Baths originally opened for public use in 1928. Designed by Nicholas & Dixon-Spain, the Baths and adjacent City Hall together are a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England. The baths were closed in April 2013, following financial cutbacks in council funding. Following a public campaign by the 'Re-open Newcastle Turkish Baths Group'. In 2016, Newcastle City Council granted a lease for the City Pool to Fusion Lifestyle (a charity), while Theatre Royal took over the running of the City Hall. The Turkish baths were renovated and the main swimming pool was converted into a gym area, while a second, smaller pool, was retained for swimming. The gym and swimming pool re-opened to the public in January 2020.
