Church of St Mary, Maryport
St Mary's is the parish church of Maryport. It was originally built in 1760 by Humphrey Senhouse of Netherhall, as a chapel to serve the population of his new coal port of Maryport, named after his wife Mary. However, the church was rebuilt in 1847 and only the font and Senhouse's memorial survive of the original church. The 1847 west tower, and the east window, survived a later enlargement and restoration in 1890-92, by J.H. Martindale, architect of Carlisle, which retained the character of the previous church. The church is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
