Church of St John, Dipton

St Joh's is a former church on Front Street in Dipton. St John the Evangelist Church was built 1885-1886 to the designs of Oliver and Leeson. The large cruciform building, in the Early English style, sits within a small former mining community. It was sympathetically restored following a fire in the vestry in 1963 which damaged the Chancel and south chapel. The church closed in c.2013 after metal thieves stole the lead off the roof, resulting in extensive water damage. The building was later sold and converted for other use (shown as Bridges NDT Ltd on Google Maps, 2021). The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
