Castle Hill camp, near Alnham
Castle Hill is located about ¼ mile north-east of Old Hazeltonrig and 1½ miles west of the hamlet of Alnham in Northumberland. At the summit of the hill are the earthwork remains of an Iron Age multivallate hillfort and the remains of a later Romano-British settlement on the same site. The hillfort is a sub-circular enclosure, with an area of about 0.4 hectares, within three concentric banks and ditches. The ramparts were constructed from earth and stone using material excavated from the ditches. Within the interior of the hillfort are at least five hut circles.[1] Castle Hill camp is a Scheduled Monument.
