Bowes Hutchinson’s Primary School

Bowes Hutchinson's Church of England (Voluntary Aided) School is located on The Street in Bowes. It has 43 pupils (in 2026) aged 2-11. The school has links with St Giles' Church.

The school is named after William Hutchinson, who in 1674, endowed the original school building and land for the school.[1] This was a free grammar school for the boys of the village. In 1845, the school was re-established as a National School. The school was re-modelled in 1877 and extended with a new classroom in 1882. In more recent times there have been further alterations and an extension at the rear of the building.
