Beaufront Castle

Beaufront Castle is an extensive privately owned country house, located about a mile and a half north-east of Hexham, situated between the villages of Anick and Sandhoe, in Northumberland. Beaufront Castle stands on the site of the tower of Beaufront, first documented in 1415, and styled a manor in 1547.[1] In 1587 the estate was sold to the Errington family, who made it their main residence. The present house was built in 1841 and designed by John Dobson, but incorporating some of the earlier building; the kitchens and rooms above are 17th century and the clock tower bell is inscribed '1694'. Beaufront Castle is Grade I listed on the National Heritage List for England.

Beaufront Castle is a privately owned 19th-century country house near Hexham, Northumberland, England. It is Grade I listed on the National Heritage List for England.

A pele tower was recorded at Beaufront in 1415. Dorothy Carnaby, heiress to the estate in the 16th century, married Gilbert Errington, and the Erringtons built a new house in the 17th century.

The property was acquired by the Cuthbert family in the early 19th century and the present imposing castellated Gothic revival style mansion was built, incorporating parts of the 17th-century house, between 1836 and 1841 to the design of architect John Dobson. William Cuthbert was High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1860.
