Magnet Court, Gallowgate, Newcastle


Magnet Court is a student residence, located on Gallowgate, Newcastle. Previously known as Andrews House and Magnet House, they were originally built as offices and shops in c.1930. Designed for the General Electric Company, the building has distinctive Art Deco terracotta relief panels, by Halliday and Agate. The relief panels have painted stylised figures, symbolic of power generation, similar to panels in the interior of Battersea Power Station. This is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
