Alum Waters

Alum Waters is a hamlet located a short distance east of New Brancepeth in County Durham. The name of the settlement came from the stream that flowed here; it's water here contained a high volume of the chemical alum which gave the water to a copper colour. The stream was diverted into a pipe system by Brandon and Byshottles Urban District Council in c.1955.[1]
