32 Abbey Street (former Police Station), Carlisle

No. 32 Abbey Street in Carlisle was built in c.1817 as a home for Christopher William Hutchinson of Temple Sowerby. The property was purchased in 1905 by the Cumberland and Westmorland Constabulary to serve as the Abbey Street lock-up and superintendent’s house. Above the door is the outline of where Constabulary's crest used to be. In 1965, the building became used as offices for the Probation Service. The building was converted back to residential use in the 2020s. Notably, the railings outside the are still in place. No. 32 Abbey Street is Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England.
