  • 1768: the lead mill at Langley was built.
  • 1768: the Church of St Ann built in Byker (now a Grade 1 Listed building)
  • 1768: the old Town Hall in South Shields built (now a Grade 1 Listed building)
  • 1768: Pottergate Tower in Alnwick rebuilt.
  • 25th May 1768: the Admiralty commissioned James Cook to command a scientific voyage to the Pacific Ocean.
