104-108 Grey Street / 1 Hood Street

Nos. 104 to 108 (even) Grey Street, Newcastle - includes No.1 Hood Street. It was built as a shop in1902-1904 by W.H. Knowles and T. and R. Milburn. The sandstone ashlar building has 4 storeys, 5 bays to Grey Street and 3 to Hood Street. It was originally built for Mawson, Swan and Morgan, stationers, booksellers and art dealers; and the building retains it's original Edwardian shop front. The building has hosted many businesses over the years, including Waterstone book shop (now at Emmerson Chambers), H&M, and Byron (burger restaurant). The ground floor, currently (2023) hosts End, a boutique clothing shop, which moved here from its original store in Granger Street in late 2021. This is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England. < Nos. 110-116 No. 102 >
