Westwood, Bardon Mill
Westwood / Westwood Cottages is a hamlet in Northumberland, located about ¾mile north-west of Bardon Mill. It is situated by Chainley Burn. In the past, there was coal mining and quarrying in the area. Barcombe Colliery was located to the north of Westwood and there was a (limestone?) quarry to the north-west of Westwood Cottages. There was once also a tramway network which ran between Barcombe Colliery and other coal mine adits, and also past quarries, then south towards Bardon Mill, terminating at a lime kiln.[1] Today, Westwood forms part of Bardon Mill Civil Parish.
