W.D. Stephens Memorial Fountain

This memorial drinking fountain is located by the junction of the Great North Road and Clayton Road in Jesmond, Newcastle. It was erected by public subscription, in memory of William Davies Stephens (1827-1901), who was a founder of the Tyne Steam Shipping Co., and a Methodist and temperance reformer. He was elected a Newcastle Councillor in 1874, Alderman in 1890 and Mayor in 1879 and 1887. The memorial is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. It stands next to the Fleming Memorial Patients' Shelter.
