War Memorial


The First World War Memorial in Tynemouth is located in the centre of the park by Front Street, between the Statue of Queen Victoria and the memorial to the Boer War. It was built in 1920 "To the / Glory / of / God / and in / Memory / of our / Fallen / 1914-18" In 1999 the names of local residents lost in the Second World War were added. The memorial is Grade II listed.

- "War Memorial. Circa 1920. Granite with bronze lettering. Circular bench divided by diagonal walls. 4 tall concave slabs form central cenotaph bearing names of dead; low relief sword and wreath."
