War Memorial, Blackhall

The War Memorial is located in Welfare Park in Blackhall Colliery. It was unveiled on the 19th April 1952 by E. Shinwell MP and dedicated by Revd. E.D.A. Staunton, Assistant Chaplain, General Northern Command.[1] The memorial commemorates 13 local servicemen who died in the First World War, 48 servicemen and women who died in the Second World War, eight civilian casualties of air raids, and a soldier who died in the Korean War. The memorial was fenced in 2001 and on 7 September 2011 a new plaque was dedicated in commemoration of all those who have died in more recent conflicts.[2] Blackhall War Memorial is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
