Toll House, Morpeth

This former toll house on Castle Square in Morpeth dates from 1831 and is now a public house. It is a single-storey, semi-octagonal building and is attached to side of Nos. 3-7 Pethgate Court. The toll house is on the former route of the Great North Road and served the Turnpike Trust which administered the close-by Telford Bridge. Later the building was used as a workshop for Strettle Memorials stonemasons. Then, in 2014, the building became a micropub called 'The Office'. After a change in ownership is is now known as 'The Toll House'.  The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
