Thorpe, County Durham


Thorpe is a distributed hamlet in County Durham, located about 3 miles south-east of Barnard Castle. Thorpe Hall has medieval origins; to the south of the hall is Southorpe (farm) and to the south-west, by the A66, is Thorpe Grange and the Thorpe Farm Centre and Thorpe Farm Holiday Park. To the north of the Hall, near the Whorlton Suspension Bridge over the River Tees, is Thorpe Light Railway (previously called the Whorlton LidoRailway). Thorpe is part of Wycliffe with Thorpe Civil Parish.
