The Spital
The Spital (house) in Hexham was built in 1802 on the site of the mediaeval St Giles' Hospital.[1] It was the centre of a large estate, with grounds and 70 acres of parkland. In 1951 Hexham golf club purchased the Spital estate and by 1954 Spital House had been renovated as the new clubhouse. The Spital is Grade I listed on the National Heritage List for England. The old stable building of The Spital, of c.1802, is also a Grade II* listed building.[2]
