The Gatehouse, The College / N.&S. Bailey


The Gatehouse provides passage to The College from North Bailey and South Bailey in Durham. The Gatehouse, incorporating St. Helen's Chapel, was built in c.1500 for Prior Castell (1494-1519). The building was restored in c.1860. The Gatehouse is Grade I listed on the National Heritage list for England.
