The Esk Boathouse

The Esk Boathouse is situated at the edge of Rockliffe Marsh, a short distance south of the River Esk (the 'Border Esk'), near the hamlet of Rockcliffe Cross in Cumbria. It was one the home of Will the boatman who rowed people across the Esk; "Here Honest Will the Boatman rowt on / Gentle and simple he did guide / to either Scotch or English side...". The boathouse is also said to have once served as an inn, for which the licence lapsed in 1889.[1] Today the building is available as a holiday let.
