The Blackbird Inn, Ponteland

The Blackbird Inn is located on North Road in Ponteland. It was formerly a manor house, incorporating a medieval tower. A tower (sometimes reffered to as "Ponteland Castle") was recorded here in 1335, but it was destoyed by the Scots in 1388.[1] The tower was restored in 1580. It was altered and an adjoining manor house added in the 17th century for Mark Errington. The building was lived in up to until 1788. It later fell into ruins and was roofless until 1935, when it was restored and built into the inn.[2] The building is Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England.
