Subberthwaite
Subberthwaite is an area in Cumbria, located about 5½ miles north of the town of Ulveston. It is a distributed community; there is no village of Subberthwaite as such. Subberthwaite had been a township in the ancient parish of Ulveston in Lancashire. It became a civil parish following the 1866 Poor Law Amendment Act. Subberthwaite became part of Cumbria, when the county was formed in 1974. On 1st April 1986, Subberthwaite was combined with Blawith to form the Blawith with Subberthwaite Civil Parish.
SUBBERTHWAITE, a township, in the parish and union of Ulverston, hundred of Lonsdale north of the Sands, N. division of the county of Lancaster, 7½ miles (N. by W.) from Ulverston; containing 147 inhabitants. Here are quarries of slate.
