Snipe House, Denwick

Snipe House is a farm / hamlet in Northumberland, located about 3 miles south-west of Alnwick and 2 miles west of Shilbottle. Whellan's 1855 directory of Northumberland lists Thomas McLein as the principle resident of Snipe House, at that time.[1] Historically, Snipe House was part of Alnwick South Side township in the ancient parish of Alnwick. Then from 1894, Snipe House has been part of Denwick Civil Parish (Detached part). In the First World War there was a Royal Flying Corps landing ground at Snipe House. The RFC site covered 33 acres and was in operation between March 1917 and June 1919.
